MKE
MKE
In this particular body of work I am addressing the idea of locality. It is speaking to not only the relationship one may have with a neighborhood or region but also the effects of losing it through advancing technologies, materialism and consumerism. This work was created right after I moved from St. Louis to Milwaukee, hence the series title, MKE. In the work I am looking to connect my personal experience of returning with what has come and gone in my physical surroundings. Visual metaphors such as trains, grain elevators, alleyways and abandoned city centers are utilized in the work for this purpose. By highlighting the vulnerable need for belonging, the work communicates the idea that perhaps what has been lost can be resurrected simply by knowing one's neighbor and neighborhood.
